Eggs and soldiers,
Do you want them soft or hard boiled?
Those yolks running away down a hot hill,
Bullets whizzing through the shell,
And the metal cracking till the scalp comes off,
Soldiers dipping in,
The shells ricocheting off the ground,
As crumbs of dirt crunch under their feet,
And the whites of their eyes turning grey from soot,
Pick their brains out with spoons,
Their fear pushing through the flesh,
How boys leave the nest,
Never to flock together again,
Eggs and soldiers.
