Christ the Redeemer: With Open Arms

High above the city lights,

On mountain peaks and quiet nights,

Stands a statue, calm and tall,

With open arms to welcome all.

In Rio de Janeiro’s land,

It watches over the sea and sand.

From Corcovado’s stony height,

It glows with love and gentle light.

The idea came in 1922,

To build a gift for everyone.

A symbol strong, both kind and true,

For faith, for hope, for something new.

In 1931 it was done,

Beneath the moon, beneath the sun.

Built from concrete, faced with stone,

It seemed to breathe, though made alone.

The arms stretch out from side to side,

Like wings above the city's pride.

Thirty meters tall it stands,

With peace and strength in open hands.

The face is calm, the eyes look far,

It shines beneath the southern star.

It took hard work and great design,

To place that statue on the line.

Builders climbed and shaped with care,

Each part placed high up in the air.

They used machines and ropes and skill,

To build a dream upon a hill.

Now tourists climb or take a train,

Through fog, through sun, and even rain.

To see the view, to feel the peace,

Where busy thoughts and worries cease.

A symbol not just made for show,

But one of love, strength, and glow.

A work of art, a sign of grace,

That holds the world in warm embrace.
